Exercise, Health, Metabolism and Functional Capacity
The unit focuses on studying the effects of physical exercise throughout the lifespan, with a strong interest in populations ranging from children to older adults. We focus on a wide range of conditions, including obesity, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), heart failure, and mental health, analyzing how exercise can influence their prevention and treatment. In addition, we explore healthy aging, frailty, cognitive decline, and fall risk, seeking strategies to improve quality of life and promote well-being during these life stages. Our goal is to generate robust scientific knowledge that supports exercise-based interventions, thereby contributing to the health and well-being of the population.
Research lines:
- Frailty and functional indicators related to aging
- Biomechanics and the neuromuscular system of movement
- Physical exercise and sedentary lifestyle-associated diseases: Diabetes, Obesity, COPD, and Cardiovascular Risk
- Strength training and cardiovascular endurance: Neuromuscular, cardiovascular, and metabolic adaptations
- Aging, cognitive decline, and physical activity: Assessment of balance, gait, and muscle power. Effects of exercise.
