An open innovation program that aims to empower entrepreneurs and digital health businesses to develop disruptive health solutions through the use of digital technologies.
CHALLENGE: Improvement of data collection during vomiting episodes in order to generate accuarte patterns for treatment improvement in patients with Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome(CVS).
Can digital technologies be used to facilitate automated reporting of seizure characteristics in CVS to ensure the correct collection of all relevant data to stablish a representative pattern of the patients episodes in the context of clinical studies?
Can we use digital technologies to find a reliable way to capture the data needed to characterise the vomiting episodes experienced by patients with CVS? As there may be months between episodes, can a wearable device that causes minimal interference for the patient be developed? If not, can a device that can easily be applied when the episode begins be developed?
Note that any complicated effort in start-up will likely lead to the same issues as using a hand-held eDiary. Please note that the parameters collected must be able to identify the incidence, duration and severity of the vomiting and retching episodes. The relevant characteristics may include but are not limited to mechanical indicators such as body position and walking gait, duration of vomiting but also biological indicators like skin temperature, heart rate, etc. The solution should be sufficiently autonomous to require minimal intervention from the patient who, at the time of the vomiting episode may not be able to actively record data Final note: Devices used in clinical trials to record coughing episodes may be useful to review.
Benefits:
- Mentorship: Training, mentoring and access to members of Start-up Advisory Board.
- Partnership: Partnering on an ad-hoc basis to help develop the solution and accelerate its growth.
- Access: Introduction to stakeholders and leaders in the health industry.
- Investment: Provide funding to pilot the solution and reach a commercial agreement.
